KJ Tait

Paul Miller – Sustainability Director, Edinburgh

Paul leads sustainability and energy performance for KJ Tait’s Edinburgh team. Since 2015 he has supported developers, landlords and estates managers to close the gap between design intent and in use performance.
Paul is a Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Accredited Low Carbon Energy Assessor. He is also a CIBSE accredited NABERS assessor and leads NABERS commissions for clients who want independently verified operational performance, not a theoretical model.

In 2023 Paul delivered Scotland’s first NABERS Design for Performance project at Semple Street, achieving a 5 star Design Reviewed Target Rating. He continues to lead NABERS work where clients need an evidence based route to operational outcomes.
Paul’s day to day work spans energy modelling in IES Apache, whole life carbon assessment, overheating analysis and practical decarbonisation strategies for commercial refurbishment. He has set operational energy and embodied carbon targets on projects including Victoria House, Tribeca and Elevate Quarter.

For landlords managing Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) risk and working towards an EPC B trajectory, Paul develops upgrade strategies that balance compliance, cost and deliverability. He focuses on measures that materially improve rating outcomes and reduce running costs.

Paul is a Chartered Engineer with the Energy Institute and mentors junior engineers within the business.
