2022 sees the tenth year of KJ Tait Engineers’ ongoing involvement in the redevelopment of one of Scotland’s most prestigious hotels overlooking the Home of Golf.
Projects undertaken at the hotel include expanding the provision of air conditioning to all bedrooms and a refurbishment of rooms and guest corridors with energy efficient lighting, new life safety systems, access controls and IT services within rooms.
An additional leisure pool, training studio, gymnasium, changing areas and plantrooms including specialist pool plant followed. The extension required the diversion of existing utility services from the former car park and integration with existing plantrooms.
Following on from these works, the decision was taken to upgrade the incoming power capacity. A new substation and main switchboards were commissioned and capacity almost doubled. The project was successfully planned around a 10-day shutdown of the hotel with essential power supplies sustained using temporary generators.
A pandemic did not slow the pace of works at the hotel and starting in 2020, a 31 bedroom extension, including a penthouse suite, was completed. This significant project also incorporated the expansion and total transformation of the largest Conference & Events suite. New plant comprising energy efficient and zoned air conditioning and full fresh air ventilation serve the function spaces which are enhanced by computer controlled, zoned LED lighting and enhanced Audio-Visual installations.
To complement the conference & events suite the existing conservatory was extended and refurbished with new glazing, new heating, LED feature lighting and audio-visual facilities.
The most recent development was completed in Autumn 2021, a new rooftop bar and restaurant on the hotel’s 4th Floor. The facility includes dedicated ventilation, air conditioning plant, power and lighting and required significant diversion of existing services at roof level before the main works could proceed. The stunning space features unrivalled views of that Road Hole!
All of the above projects had unique challenges and required a close working relationship between the many Stakeholders. With the challenges came opportunities and experience which will follow through to the next phase and the next project.
2022 sees the 150th Open Championship back at the Home of Golf. KJ Tait Engineers are pleased to have played a part in preparing the hotel to provide a 5-star experience for this historic event.
