This project comprised a new £25M Sports Centre for Oundle School. The facility provides a focal point for the sporting activities at the school, supplementing the existing sports centre, and will help the school compete on a national basis with other leading senior independent schools.
The new sports centre building houses a 50 metre swimming pool, an 8 court sports hall and a 350 cover kitchen. The building also accommodates all supporting ancillary spaces, including a wet and dry changing area and storage areas.
The building design includes roof mounted PV cells and a large solar thermal system to heat the swimming pools and the DHWS cylinders. The building structure is predominantly of CLT construction which presented challenges, particularly in the pool hall, with its roof light design.
A number of enhancements were required to enable the facility to host national sporting events.
