Barking and Dagenham College secured government funding to open an Institute of Technology (IOT).
This project involved a refurbishment to create a purpose built facility for advanced technologies to deliver advanced and higher level training. The IOT provides specialisms in the following sectors:
The Client Brief stipulated a requirement for low carbon design which creates a challenge in energy intensive technical buildings. We modelled the occurrence of elevated temperatures using traditional mechanical ventilation systems and developed a hybrid ventilation heating and cooling system which significantly reduced the occurrence of elevated temperatures and delivered low running costs.
The solution integrated a natural ventilation heat recovery unit to maximise passive cooling, free cooling ventilation, night purge cooling and thermal mass storage.
