Al Noor Primary School is a FE Independent Primary School situated in the Borough of Redbridge and catering for pupils aged 4-11. This £7.9M project involved the demolition of the original building and construction of a new 2,300m2 school over 3 floors with a roof level games area.
The building was designed to allow natural light to permeate the spaces and create space for the community use as well as school use. A prayer room is the focal point of the building.
The development follows the energy hierarchy approach, using passive means where possible before considering renewables. Energy modelling was carried out and the school adopted a hybrid natural ventilation strategy with night cooling facility to meet defined comfort requirements. Glazing was optimised to achieve the best balance between natural daylight to meet climate based daylighting standards. A PV array was included on the roof of the building to reduce carbon emissions meeting targets set out in the London Plan.
