Aberdeen is one of the most successful universities in Scottish and British university sporting competition. The University, in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and supported by Sport Scotland, developed this new £28 million flagship sport facility, with the aim of becoming the centre of excellence for sport in north-east Scotland.
Facilities in the Sports Village include: full-size indoor football pitch; indoor athletics area (135m running straight with throwing and jumping areas); large sports hall; four squash courts; large fitness suite and performance gymnasium; two studios; 400m outdoor athletics track and stadium; floodlit water-based hockey pitch; performance and well-being centre (with physiotherapy clinic); and a crèche, café and spectator seating. KJ Tait Engineers provided MEP engineering services consultancy as part of the design team. The Regional Sports Facility Aberdeen has won many awards, including RIBA Award 2010 and Aberdeen Civic Society Award 2009, and was commended in the Scottish Design Awards category of Best Public Building 2011.
