Skibo Castle

Originally a 13th century stone tower house, and rebuilt as a large fortified palace in 1545, the old castle was included in the structure created when Andrew Carnegie bought the estate and built a mansion in the 19th century. Now an exclusive hotel and club, the Grade B listed swimming centre and spa facilities at Skibo Castle were extensively refurbished at a cost of £4m, with MEP engineering services provided by KJ Tait Engineers. The sympathetic design included an innovative loop ventilation system allowing overhead ductwork to be eliminated, and plant was sensitively accommodated in an outbuilding disguised as a boat shed.
