This £20M project involved the major conversion and fit-out of an existing 35,000ft2 building at Granta Park in Cambridge to provide a new facility incorporating bio-science laboratories, write-up space, offices, 3D imaging and conferencing facilities.
KJ Tait were appointed at Feasibility Stage to provide a full design service, working for both the Landlord, BioMed Realty, for the Shell & Core elements and Sosei Heptares for the fit-out. Sosei Heptares is a clinical stage company creating transformative medicines targeting G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), a superfamily of receptors linked to a wide range of human diseases. They are an industry pioneer in GPCR structure-based drug design (SBDD) and have built a powerful and unique capability for discovering both small molecule and antibody medicines targeting GPCRs.
We appraised the building to determine its suitability and adaptability to support the laboratory functions and worked closely with the Clients and Architects to develop a solution that provided additional plant and services distribution space to suit the laboratory.
Laboratory facilities include:
The building was also extended to accommodate two cryo electron microscopes, associated sample preparation lab and dedicated specialist services to support the critical EM environment.
