Heyford Hotel

Bicester

Heyford Hotel is the focal point for the new Heyford Park mixed use development near Bicester in Oxfordshire.  The site is more than 1,200 acres situated on a former RAF base. The masterplan for the site being developed by Dorchester Living comprises commercial, retail and residential developments including offices, shops, a new school and village green providing leisure facilities for the residents and the wider neighbourhood.

With a construction value of £6M, the hotel is circa 1,800m² spread across two storeys and includes reception, public bar, restaurant, commercial kitchen, two lane bowling alley, canopy link restaurant, state of the art gym and 16 guest bedrooms.

All guest bedrooms are fully air conditioned by a VRF heat pump system and naturally ventilated from openable windows.   Mechanical cooling and tempered fresh air ventilation for social spaces is via central roof mounted air handling plant.  Hot water generation is via gas fired hot water storage cylinders and potable water from boosted cold water storage tank.

Feature and low energy LED lighting has been provided throughout and the hotel ceiling will be adorned with plants to promote Wellness.

KJ Tait Engineers developed the mechanical, electrical and public health services design and modelled the building using Revit software to BIM level 2.

IES VE computer modelling was used to assess comfort criteria and compliance in accordance with TM52 and Part l2a and was extensively used with the canopy link restaurant to ensure glare and overheating were controlled to an acceptable level.
