Heart of Hawick

The Heart of Hawick development is one of the biggest and most unique regeneration projects in the Scottish Borders. The project is a multi-agency arts and heritage initiative designed to contribute to the social, cultural and economic regeneration of Hawick and the wider Borders. KJ Tait Engineers undertook full MEP design duties.

Heart of Hawick comprised the conversion of the ‘A’ listed Tower Mill, a former spinning mill, to an Arts Centre with theatre, studios, shop, café and ancillary space together with conversion and extension of the former Corn Exchange building (Heritage Hub) to a Family History Centre, with public search room, Registrar’s Office and archive storage. Funding was principally supplied by Scottish Borders Council, European Union, Heritage Lottery Funding and Scottish Arts Council.
