Dancebase is a regional dance centre and a focus for community and professional dance. The building comprises a 70m dogleg sitting on a steep embankment, with the rear entrance sited two floors above the street. Each of the four dance studios has an individual characteristic, with differing views. The principal studio looks upward through its glazed roof to Edinburgh Castle and beyond. KJ Tait Engineers provided full MEP design services. The building was a runner up for the 2002 Stirling Prize and winner of a Civic Trust Award and Scottish Design Award.
