Banff and Buchan College

KJ Tait Engineers undertook full MEP engineering services design and BREEAM consultancy for the redevelopment of Banff and Buchan College’s main campus building in Fraserburgh.

The project comprised the refurbishment of 3,650 m² of the existing Fraserburgh Campus with significant new build elements including atria totalling approximately 5,300 m², at a budget of approximately £19m. Construction was completed on a phased basis as the campus remained operational throughout the construction programme of 21 months. The procurement route was single-stage design and build format; a key point, however, was that the design was substantially complete prior to tender issue at Stage F.

A significant feature is the ground-air heat exchanger installation, contributing to energy saving, and the largest installed in Scotland. We continue to monitor performance as part of our commitment to renewable resources.
