High Court

Edinburgh

KJ Tait Engineers undertook the MEP design for the creation of the new High Court facility in Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile. The facility includes four new High Court rooms and all associated judge, jury, witness and public areas.

A low-energy design strategy was embodied within the design of the engineering services. Displacement ventilation is provided to the lower court rooms with air supplied via perforated skirting panels and under seats. Water-spray evaporative cooling is provided to enable a supply air temperature of up to 8 ºC below outside ambient temperature to all court rooms. This system is the first of this type to be installed in Scotland.
