Donaldson’s School

Linlithgow

After more than 150 years based in the iconic Playfair building at Haymarket in Edinburgh, Donaldson’s school concluded that the building was no longer fit for purpose.

Donaldson’s new £8m campus in Linlithgow is the newest and most modern environment designed to educate and care for children in the UK who are deaf or have communication difficulties. The campus has shared teaching, sports, dining and administrative facilities in a central hub linking two teaching wings – the nursery/primary and secondary schools. Both schools are grouped around individual play spaces with links and views to the landscape. Residential accommodation is provided in a separate purpose-built lodge on the edge of the site.

KJ Tait Engineers applied low-energy sustainable design techniques to ensure comfort and minimise running costs, and latest technologies are used to provide the best possible methods of communication to meet individual needs.
